Why We Wrote This Book

A story that makes room
for fear and courage.

Gale the Library Bear inspires children to build courage and confidence as they explore new challenges.

Writing together gave Roscoe and Zakiyah an opportunity to connect across generations and share something meaningful with young readers.

With The Bear Who Feared Running, they wanted to acknowledge children’s fears and show how courage can develop over time. They hope Gale’s experience gives families, educators, and caregivers a starting point for conversations about feelings, trying something challenging, and growing confidence.
